Seeking Artists — Pay, Publishing, Profits
Sunday, November 30th, 2008(UPDATED EIGHT TIMES!)
My name is Bobby Crosby and I write Marry Me, Last Blood and +EV. I hope to launch at least four new graphic novels in January, but I need your help, since I suck at drawing and I wouldn’t have time anyway, since I’d be, you know, writing seven comics. All of these comics, including the current three, will be weekly, and my plan is to have one for every day of the week.
The new graphic novels, like Marry Me and Last Blood, are based on my movie ideas and are all in different genres, so I’m not looking for any one style of art. The goal is to print first issues (24 or 32 pages) for all of these in time for the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con (late July), where they will be featured at the Blatant Comics booth and seen by hundreds of producers, leading to things like this. All of these comics will also be on Keenspot at launch.
If hired, you will receive:
* A bare minimum of $15 per page, more for covers.
* A large percentage of the profits from the comics (online and in print) and also a percentage of the profits from anything the project makes outside of the comics, like movies or TV shows.
* As many free copies as you’d reasonably want of your published work.
All of these graphic novels will be published by Blatant Comics and distributed by Diamond. As a Keenspot comic with major links from all the comics I’m associated with, each new comic will begin with thousands of readers.
The best example of my writing right now is Marry Me, but feel free to check out +EV and Last Blood as well. My scripts are usually very detailed, often including funny little layout sketches like this one, if deemed necessary or if I’m bored.
These graphic novels are expected to run anywhere from 60 to 120 pages, which means 14 to 28 months on a weekly schedule, although we might update more often at times, if possible or necessary, and finish sooner. Would be nice to have the finished graphic novels at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con. Marry Me was 91 pages and Last Blood was 112. Please don’t apply unless you’re very confident that you could meet a weekly schedule for a high quality comic for the next 18 months at least. Sequels (or at least fun side stories, like the ones we’ll be doing for Marry Me) are possible for most of the upcoming projects, but you would not be obligated to sign on for anything past the first graphic novel.
To repeat, the plan is for these to be weekly, but if you’re a great versatile artist with time to kill, it’s very possible that you could be hired for two or more of these projects. I would love to find someone like that. Or, if I’m unable to find multiple good artists, there’s a chance I could do two comics as MWF instead or one comic five times a week even and have the full graphic novel done for Comic-Con. But the goal is at least four new weekly comics. I have over a dozen solid film concepts still waiting to be made.
If you’re interested in illustrating any of these projects or if you have any questions, please e-mail me at bobbyc512@gmail.com, leave a message in the comments for this page, or instant message me through the link below if I’m available.
If you’re even going to consider asking a question, please first read everything there is to read on this page, including the comments section. People who ask questions that are already answered here are automatically no longer considered for any job. Other than producing quality art on time, your main job will be following very detailed scripts that will usually be longer than this blog post, so if you can’t get through this post and understand it, I can’t work with you.
UPDATE #1
Been getting a lot of IMs — which is fine, I type insanely fast — but this Gmail chat program isn’t great and I’ve accidentally closed down a couple of the IMs — sorry about that. Feel free to IM me on Yahoo Messenger as well at BobbyC712. Easier to keep track of those, and then I can actually see a name for you instead of just Guest.
Also, I strongly prefer an artist who also letters and colors, but that’s not a requirement. It would certainly give you an advantage. The great Remy “Eisu” Mokhtar colors and letters Marry Me, by the way. He also already had popular comics of his own online, which is something else that would give you an advantage — but again, not at all required. More important than the popularity of his comics was simply the proof that he could consistently produce solid work. But I’m also open to hiring a great artist who has never been involved in comics before.
Don’t hesitate to send me examples of your work, preferably as links. Send me whatever you want and tell me whatever you want — now’s the time! I’m reading everything carefully and I’m hiring! Let’s make some comics!
If you have any general questions which you think others might also have, please read the comments for this page first. And if your question hasn’t been asked yet, feel free to ask it in the comments so everyone can see the answer. Thank you.
UPDATE #2
The projects are in various genres and various ratings from G to R. An artist would be chosen for a project based on whatever the best fit would be. The goal for one of the comics is a Pixar type CGI-animated film, for example. Another is a political action thriller with lots of murders, and so on.
A popular question is what program the artist should work in and also what all the job would entail. I prefer the artist to work with whatever programs can get results that will be of a similar quality (not necessarily style, but quality — professionalism) of Marry Me or Last Blood. The job simply entails doing whatever is necessary to produce work like that, and to do it on time, of course.
UPDATE #3 (December 3, morning)
No one has been hired yet. Keep the submissions coming. Your age doesn’t matter, your location doesn’t matter. I will be replying eventually to every single e-mail. Artist jobs with me will ALWAYS be available, since I have a million more projects to do. Some will begin this month and some will begin ten years from now. I am always looking for artists.
UPDATE #4 (December 3, night)
Over 150 submissions so far and less than two of those have decent examples of a realistic comic art style. To repeat, I’m looking for all different styles for all different genres (like literally ALL GENRES, please read this post carefully if you’re going to apply), not just manga or cartoony. Great manga art would work for some of these, and great cartoony art would work for some of these, but about half of the upcoming projects pretty much require a realistic style. Please don’t whine and say “Why didn’t you say that from the start???” Because as I just said, I am looking for all styles, and “about half” does NOT equal “100 percent.”
There are about eight ideas that I’d be comfortable with starting as new comics very soon — meaning I know enough about them that I could start writing them right away. Of those eight, there are a specific four which I’d like to start as soon as possible, while probably holding off the others for future projects, since I don’t want to be writing eleven comics simultaneously (including the current three). So I’m mostly looking for artists for those top four projects, but if I don’t find good enough artists for those, I’d consider bumping the others up the schedule. Several of these comics could conceivably be drawn in various styles, but of my top four choices, three of them should probably be realistic, while the other could be cartoony or even 3D (it’s the Pixar type).
So let’s see some realistic art! One project features lots of hi-tech sniper rifles and Washington, D.C. landmarks and lots of guys in suits. One features a gigantic monster and lots of views from space — the Earth and the moon. One’s set in World War II with a significant focus on life in Japan. The cartoony/3D project features trillions of little aliens.
If you’re a good realistic artist, I’ll be so happy to see your stuff that I might just hire you on the spot!
UPDATE #5 (December 7)
One done deal so far and another deal almost certainly going to happen. Still leaves many projects available, including at least two that I’d like to start right away!
UPDATE #6 (December 14)
Still only the one deal done so far. Keep those submissions coming. Eventually I’ll reply to every e-mail.
UPDATE #7 (December 27)
Same situation still — keep submitting! I apologize if I haven’t yet replied to your e-mail — that’s probably a good sign, though, at this stage, meaning that it’s not a definite no yet. Current goal is to reply to everyone by January 10.
UPDATE #8 (January 5)
Nothing has changed.

November 30th, 2008 at 11:48 pm
I’ve sent you an e-mail. Please consider me for the position.
December 1st, 2008 at 12:08 am
Neat-o! I’m not sure if my style’s what you’re looking for, but feel free to peruse my SheezyArt gallery to see what I’m made of, if you so desire. Please don’t hesitate to send me an e-mail if you have any questions for me, either.
December 1st, 2008 at 12:29 am
Hello, I’m quite curious as to what would be needed to be an artist. I am quite interested and would love to send any illustrations or comic work examples.
December 1st, 2008 at 12:31 am
Could this work if artist lives in Europe? I’m still updating my website and it’s kinda empty right now but feel free to see some of my work. BTW it’s in Finnish
December 1st, 2008 at 12:32 am
What is needed is good art and the ability to produce pages of similar quality hopefully to Marry Me and Last Blood. Please don’t hesitate to e-mail me any work you’d like to show.
bobbyc512@gmail.com
Going to edit the main post soon to add that I strongly prefer an artist who also colors and letters, but those aren’t totally required.
December 1st, 2008 at 12:40 am
I’ve sent you an email. Just thought I’d comment here too so it doesn’t get lost.
December 1st, 2008 at 12:56 am
Edited the main post.
“Could this work if artist lives in Europe?”
No problem at all. The artist of Marry Me lives in Malaysia. The artist for Last Blood lives in Canada. I live in Los Angeles and I’ve never even spoken to either one on the phone. (Well, me and Owen did a phone interview once.)
December 1st, 2008 at 6:18 am
How about you finsh last blood first? i don’t think thats been updated for half a year.
December 1st, 2008 at 6:24 am
“All of these comics, including the current three, will be weekly, and my plan is to have one for every day of the week.”
It will be announced soon on lastblood.net/main that it will start up again as a weekly comic on January 3 and update every Saturday. +EV will update every Sunday (starting January 4). Also, Last Blood was completed almost a full year ago now. You’re welcome for the extra pages we’ve given you as a nice treat, and for the first 112 that we gave you as a nice treat.
December 1st, 2008 at 6:45 am
stuff like this makes me wish I could draw…it also tells me that i’m never going to get an artist for free
December 1st, 2008 at 12:16 pm
Hello Bobby,
I im’d you last night and also e-mailed you. I am also making sure I did not get lost.
I am an experienced 2D and 3D artist and I would really like an opportunity to work with you.

Radja! Your stuff is adorable! I’d love to see one of bobby’s stories in your art style!
December 1st, 2008 at 2:11 pm
How old do you have to be? I’m 15…
December 1st, 2008 at 2:15 pm
I wish I was out of school so I could be sure I could devote my time to this project. :\ Otherwise I’d definitely apply. I love your work.
December 1st, 2008 at 3:18 pm
Email has been sent.
Cheers!
Samantha.
December 1st, 2008 at 3:33 pm
I sent an email. I hope to become apart of your projects!
December 1st, 2008 at 4:15 pm
“How old do you have to be?”
I’d hire a baby if she could draw like Eisu.
December 1st, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Just sent you an email. Hope you find the right artists for your projects!
December 1st, 2008 at 5:54 pm
;_; I would love to, it sucks that I probably won’t have the time since I’m still in school. Anyway, good luck at finding someone!
December 1st, 2008 at 7:36 pm
I’m just like Hadiya… I’d totally do this if it weren’t for the fact that I still have school (and there’s the fact that I’m not really good compared to Eisu… well, who is anyway?). Man… freakin’ education.
But I hope you find your artist.
December 1st, 2008 at 7:46 pm
Ah such a tempting thing to try, seeing I need cash and my own web comic isn’t producing me any. But I worry that I’m not:
a. good enough
b. reliable enough.
Blah, plus it’s been forever since i worked with a writer xD
December 2nd, 2008 at 5:14 am
Waaaa Anna, thanks :3 but most of those pics on my website are old, hopefully i get to send Bobby some new thingies before it’s too late…
December 2nd, 2008 at 6:03 am
it is so great to see Marry me back up and running. Look forward to seeing the next page. Thanks for all your hard work. and you do great work. I love it what a great Christmas gift. *smiles* thanks again
December 2nd, 2008 at 6:38 am
I’m planning on sending you an e-mail, but right now my website is down.
I have never worked in comics before, but I’ve been working professionally in art (galleries and lessons and commissions etc.) for a few years and can easily make deadlines. I’ve read quite a few comics though and I’ve really enjoyed your writing in both Marry Me and Last Blood.
please look for my e-mail.
December 2nd, 2008 at 11:35 am
Heya Bobby,
Sent ya an e-mail… yesterday? I think?
But just thought I’d bump in here as well.
December 2nd, 2008 at 7:35 pm
Evening, Bobby.
I sent you an e-mail earlier this afternoon. I’m a 2D illustrator and included a link to my gallery on deviantart for samples in my my e-mail.
Thanks.
December 3rd, 2008 at 10:00 am
heh I’ll be sending an email in like 2 minutes. I would be delighted to be considered.
December 3rd, 2008 at 10:02 am
Hello Bobby
Just send you an email too. Nice to knwo you´ll read everything and adress all of us hopefulls in return. ; )
I included a link to the portfolio I set up for you. I offer ten years of experience in deadline dependent illustration and a wide variety of styles.

Wolf
December 3rd, 2008 at 3:05 pm
I am interested in some freelance work. Please look at my work and let me know what you think.
December 3rd, 2008 at 4:27 pm
dunno if I’ve got what it takes… how do you feel about charcoal? I’m a monster btw, and as such am nocturnal. What kind of stories do you want? I’m somewhat obsessed with dark themes…
December 3rd, 2008 at 7:28 pm
What do you consider realistic? Like comparable to the art style of Last Blood?
December 3rd, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Sure, yeah. If you can do this, you’re hired:
http://lastblood.net/comicfolder/2007-11-08.jpg
December 4th, 2008 at 7:29 pm
Ohhh. I just saw that Last Blood link. I sent you an application, and I think the crap job I did of a layout page must’ve bombed my application. And if that Last Blood page is what you are looking for (realistic, grey tones), that’s my stronger area. I’ll try to cook up something more towards what you’re looking for and reapply, if that’s okay with you.
December 4th, 2008 at 7:45 pm
Again, I’m honestly looking for EVERYTHING, but there is currently a shortage of solid realistic art in these submissions, so I just wanted to make it clear that I am also specifically looking for that, in addition to everything else, since I think some people have assumed that I’m only looking for a Marry Me type style, since they’re currently viewing this on marrymemovie.com. Hopefully that will change in an hour or two when a similar call for artists goes up on lastblood.net.
December 4th, 2008 at 8:22 pm
One comic a week is pretty easy work. And I would not mind throwing my hat in for something like that. Paid anything would encourage me to spend more time on it to look much better than I normally do. Though this would seem very unlikely in any case.
But anyway, I suppose I mostly want to chime in and say that $15 a page for a good realistic artist sounds quite a bit low, at least from what I’ve been seeing around anyway. Though the staying power and prospect in this/these endeavor(s) should be good for less/not established artists just getting out there.
December 4th, 2008 at 8:41 pm
Fesworks is a good example of someone who can’t comprehend the words he reads and therefore is automatically disqualified from consideration. He’s also apparently forgotten that we hate each other.
“I suppose I mostly want to chime in and say that $15 a page for a good realistic artist sounds quite a bit low . . .”
Of course it does, which is why I also said there’s significant profit sharing for the comics and everything else, and why I said it’s a bare minimum of $15 per page. There’s also guaranteed publishing and distribution, a spot on Keenspot, a history of movie deals, and many other advantages I’m probably forgetting at the moment. My three current artists all get a fair bit more than $15 per page and I’ve given multiple raises to each of them. See the new post on lastblood.net/main for additional info.
Most “webcomic” collaborations are 50/50 profit sharing and that’s it, with very little hopes of ever making a profit or ever having anyone actually read your work. This is quite different obviously.
“Though the staying power and prospect in this/these endeavor(s) should be good for less/not established artists just getting out there.”
I think you’ll be surprised by a couple of the names who have applied.
December 5th, 2008 at 6:24 am
Hey Bobby!
Just wanted to wish you luck on the artist search and that i look forward to see what knew projects you have in store for us.
December 5th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
Hello,
I sent you an e-mail. Two actually, my bad.
But I have no interest in drawing manga, and draw pretty realistically.
Thanks for the consideration!
December 5th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
What ever happened to No Pink Ponys??
I still go to the site every day, but nothing has changed in forever
WHY Eisu?
December 7th, 2008 at 1:20 pm
Glad to finally see something new, cant wait to see you again next year at next years CON in San Diego, still wish it would not have taken you 7 months to get something new up though.
December 7th, 2008 at 5:40 pm
You should check out this artist! I don’t know what her schedule’s like, but I know she could use the money, if nothing else but to help Shaun pay his medical bills. Her comic-manga skills are awesome! A perfect match for your awesome writing skills!!!!!! (in my opinion)
December 7th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
Just letting you know I dropped an email requesting correspondence about exchanging my sample artwork. I’d love to break into comics with you because I love to draw, I’m disciplined, motivated, and frankly need a writer right about now, so it’s a perfect fit! Checking out some of your other work as we speak…
December 7th, 2008 at 6:43 pm
Hello Mr. Crosby,
As many others have done, I too would like to let you know that I have sent you an e-mail. I would love to be the artist for one of your projects as this is what I’ve been waiting for since I was 8 years old! I sure hope you consider me for one of these current projects, if not future ones! Thanks for the opportunity!
December 8th, 2008 at 6:29 am
Hello, you might have sent me an email, if so it’s disappeared because I accidentally deleted my entire inbox.
December 8th, 2008 at 8:40 pm
yep totally not going to find an artist for mine now:(
December 10th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
What about covers? I draw comics (I don’t think my style would be what anybody’s looking for…:/) But can draw in several different styles and would enjoy doing covers. ^_^ I put a link to my DA. You can contact me at AHawk1991@yahoo.com.
December 11th, 2008 at 5:09 am
Hey Bobby,
My Offer is Still on the Table!!
Sent you an email with my new address.
Let me know. A Yes would be nice, but a no is perfectly ok so I dont hang on.
Sent you one of my rough comic page layouts, also - dont mind the messy, it was done with a mouse. -__-
I have my new, non crapified Graphics tablet on the way though!!
:D
–
MANDI!! I can still help you.
Contact me through Deviant Art (my name is linked to it), or Send me an email. :}
December 17th, 2008 at 2:30 am
Hmm. I’m very tempted to give this a try. One comic a week wouldn’t be too much of a burden on top of my college art classes, I don’t think- and I could certainly use the money.
I’m a semi-realistic/American comics style artist… You may be getting an email from me in the next couple of days, Mr. Crosby.
December 19th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Hello, Bobby,
A friend of mine chatted with you a bit about being considered, and even though we could both be competing for a shot here, she had to let me in on this. Here’s a direct link to my DA gallery; there’s a short, eight-page comic right at the top. Sounds similar, as it too was one page a week. Do take a look at the other work I have as well, as I’d hope that it shows some variation.
In addition to this post I’ll shoot off an email with these and other images.
Good luck to all!
(We should all keep telling our friends about this. Opportunities this good don’t come around often!)
LaterDays.
December 20th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Hello Hello,
I sent an email to you for your consideration.
If there is any feedback on any of my work I’d appreciate it. I’m always looking for ways to grow. And this sounds like a great opportunity.

December 24th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
And now to something completley different…
Does anyone think she would make a good Stasia? Because I do:

December 26th, 2008 at 9:16 pm
Broeckchen - She would if she were a little younger.
She can Def. Sing, Has the figure and the hair.. lol.. She just looks 5 or 1- years too old. u__u;; and as a woman, I feel terrible saying that but Stasia looks like she’s in her early 20’s.
December 26th, 2008 at 9:33 pm
I meant 10** not 1-
December 26th, 2008 at 9:35 pm
OK, I’m not spamming.. if I could delete my other comments I would..
I watched the second video and put on my glasses.. XD
She’s gorgeous.
December 26th, 2008 at 11:15 pm
Jenn, she’s 24. The problem is she doesn’t appear to speak English well enough to pull it off. Stasia can’t have any hint of a foreign accent. It’s also almost required for the role of Stasia to be played by a star, or at least a rising star in America, like Amanda Seyfried, for example.
December 27th, 2008 at 2:00 pm
::nod:: I liked the woman you picked earlier, Kristen Bell. She’s adorable.
As for Broeckchen’s videos, I was half asleep and posted a comment before watching the second video and seeing how young the woman actually was… because I’m a nar-nar like that.
And I also see where you’re coming from with the accent thing. Make’s sense. I googled Amanda Seyfried (I’ve never heard of her) and she’d make a good Staisa, too (if she can sing… like I said, I have no clue who that woman is.. lol)
December 27th, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Seyfried is the star of the highest grossing musical of all time. You need to get better at Google!
December 27th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Hi Bobby,
Just sent an e-mail. Hope you like my stuff
-Jen-
December 27th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
I just remembered what I keep forgetting to say… .
I had to go to my school the other day to get something with my schedule there and there was a super cute blonde (that looked like stasia) behind the desk…
Anyway.. I sat and sat.. and then she got a phone call and I heard her say “It’s me! Anastasia!” and I almost peed (but not really) because is was so coincidental. I was like “zOMG” …
I tried to get a pic with my camera phone but the desk was too high.. >:{
Next time.
December 27th, 2008 at 2:07 pm
Bobby,
You’re right about that.. I do. lol
I need to read instead of going to google images straight away.
December 27th, 2008 at 6:36 pm
i wonder if there would be an age requirement… ^_^;
December 27th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
That’s answered in the blog post and in the comments.
December 30th, 2008 at 10:13 pm
Alright Bobby, here’s my crack at the Marry me sketch you linked to in your post. Please let me know if you’d like to see the original. Also, if there is anything more you’d like to see with what I’ve got here, or something different you’d like to see (a different take or what have you), do let me know. I hope to here from you soon either way. Thanks!
Sending you an email with the same.

Amanda Seyfried - http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=qWjCESZpgIw I’m impressed!
Thanks so much for all the work you do Bobby!! This is one of the best Christmas gifts for a lot of us I’m sure, can’t wait til the 2nd!! ^_^
December 30th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Might as well leave the link to the pencils…
January 1st, 2009 at 11:58 am
Dear Bobby,
I’m a long-time fan of your work, and I hope this application isn’t a bit too late, but I would be honored to be considered for one of your projects. I am still a student in Miami, Florida and have not been able [or rather willing] to publish my own work on the web, but I have a wide range of styles from realistic to psychedelic, cartoonish, even slightly manga-derived styles (but less Moe and more…harsh, for lack of a better word) and would probably be ready to work on a weekly basis by March of this year. I use any material I can get my hands on for the job, and for a comparison, I suppose you could say I am inspired by such artists as Yoshitaka Amano, Dave McKean, Peter Chung, and H.R. Geiger. I also have done art for narrative purposes in the past, whether for my own stories or those of my classmates.
I am not proficient in doing entirely computer-based artwork, but I can color and digitally manipulate my artwork and have done my own lettering in the past for personal projects. I wish I had my portfolio from the past year or so of work I’ve completed, but I have to reacquire it from my professor. In the meantime, please check out the measly amount of work I have on deviantART, which I have linked to here. If you are at all interested, I will have the rest of my work uploaded as soon as possible. Thank you very much for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Daniel Rodriguez
PS
I will also send this through my email so as to not force you to fish through the comments; I just got the nerve to write this after reading through the entire post and all the questions left.
January 2nd, 2009 at 8:08 am
I have no idea if I am too late to submit I have been away from my computer for a bit as I have had alot going on.
However I think my style may be more suited to what you are looking for on my diviant art acount you can see the pencils I did for a comic quite recently. I am more than capable at colouring in photoshop (there are more examples on deviant art) and I can work to deadlines.
I have added my Email address incase you are interested.
Many Thanks
Emma Hotchkin

Mr. Crosby, I am a fan of your work as well as an artist. I wish I could say that I had the talent to make a realistic art style but I’m only self-taught and draw in a manga-ish style. I am still interested in working for you, though I don’t believe I will be able to apply until latter on. I currently have no computer of my own and the program I use to draw on is something I’m not used to yet. Once I graduate from High School I will be getting my own laptop and I’ll be able to start drawing on a regular basis. Untill then I will withold from sending you an application, but if you wish to see some of my (not so great) artwork I have uploaded them to my MySpace account.
I actually have several ideas of my own that I wish to publish on the internet but I am inexperienced and unsure of how to script out my ideas so that I can draw them. If at all possible, I would wish to be able and work on a small project for you free of charge just to help me get some experience. It would not have to be anything big, even a short story would help. Or if you could possibly reference me to someone else who may be able to gain experince in comic writting would be greatly appreciated.
-Schuyler
P.S.
If you do happen to check out my artwork please bear in mind that it is not my best, I do better with pecil and paper but I am trying to get accustomed to the computer program that I use for illistrating.
P.P.S.
My MySpace url is chaos_harmony_magic.myspace.com. It is not urgent that you check it out, but if you do wish to see my other art contact me by email and I can scan in some of my other artwork.

Hi, I’m Nate
I work as an illustrator making covers for yearbooks for schools all over the western US. I also have gotten my feet wet in the webcomic arena with my comic Quackyboys. I am still in college and my drawing is constantly changing. Right now I am actually focusing on developing my comic inking which is coming along nicely.
I have not posted much of my finished work online recently, so if you like my comic style, let me know and I’ll get some of my more recent stuff up.
I love your little mock up sketches that you do, and would love to have a strip sketched out for me like that. It would be really fun to work with a talented writer such as yourself.
I have also sent an email.
Thanks,
Nate

So what number of emails are you on, Bobby?

Mr. Crosby,
I was just curious as to know rather or not you’ve made it through all the emails or sent out the emails to those that have applied yet.
Thank you for your time.

Still a long way to go, unfortunately. Thanks for your patience. Been unexpectedly busy recently. Also, at least 40% of the submissions made it very clear that they didn’t even come close to reading the entire blog post, and I won’t be responding at all to many of those, since they don’t deserve a response.

Thanks for the update Bobby. I know a few people (myself included) were anxious to hear some news.
I’ve also updated my on-line portfolio, in case you haven’t seen it recently.

Hey, I sent you links to my art and online gallery.
Just wondering if you got it. I guess I’ll send an e-mail just in case…

Hello Mr. Crosby!
I don’t know if it’s too late (I don’t think so since the last update says still only one hired) But I would like to take a crack at applying for a job.
Now My style isn’t very realistic and I know thats mainly what you are looking for, but I already do a comic, which I letter as well, and even though it isn’t in color, I can color.
I left a link to my comic, and I will also be sending a more formal E-Mail with a link to my portfolio as well.
Thank you for your time!

I think that is one of the most generous offers one could give for an on-line comic (plus the whole publishing offer), and I wish you the best of luck in finding people who will match your projects. Unfortunately, I am in your position: searching for comic artists. I wish I was financially able to offer a package like that, so I commend you on your success and wish you even more. I’m speechless when I consider that. Wow.
Best of luck to you. You’ve got awesome work.

Any word on an update or is this subject closed?

Why is there a need for an update when this was included:
“Artist jobs with me will ALWAYS be available, since I have a million more projects to do. Some will begin this month and some will begin ten years from now. I am always looking for artists.”
It’s like no one even read the damn thing.

Its not that it goes unread, I read that and just assumed it was a general comment made. It was just that you stated in your updates that you’d be replying to the emails. Being one of the potential artists who submitted and email and have not heard anything, I was just looking for a reply/update.
Sorry for seemingly wasting your time.

Sorry about that — assumed you were a new person. It’s amazing how many people e-mail me and simply say “Are you still looking for artists?” instead of just showing me their work, eliminating themselves from contention right from the start.
Haven’t yet got back to everyone — I’m extremely slow with such things and I apologize for saying that I would by certain times and not doing that. I mostly said it just to stop people from e-mailing me three times a day asking if they got the job or not, which was incredibly annoying. And most submissions didn’t deserve a response, since they proved that they couldn’t or didn’t read/understand my post with their submission. Yours was one of the few that had no such problems, though! Your stuff’s pretty good, but it’s not right for any project that I want to start soon — maybe for one down the line. Feel free to re-submit when I put out another big call for artists in the future. Thanks for your submission.

Okay, thanks. I’ll keep that in mind and pay attention for future updates/posting.
And sorry for seeming annoying by commenting like that. I don’t come across many chance to show my art for potential work, so any chance I can get, I’m going to do my best for it.
