I like this one. Gonna see Africa soon!

141 Responses to “Page 53: What Stasia Wants”

  1. Anko Says:

Oh the suspense. I want to know what that test is.

On a different note, I have a Math professor that looks exactly like Stasia.

  2. Endless Says:

    Test? Charity work maybe?

  3. Endless Says:

Dammit Anko! How are you so fast?!

  4. Anko Says:

“Dammit Anko! How are you so fast?!”

I talk to Bobby on IMs and beg for constant updates on when the pages go up and he obliges because he’s actually not super mean. And on Last Blood I wake up at insane hours to check if Owen posted the unlettered page.

  5. Slaine Says:

Damn Anko, as was mentioned on the Last Blood comments page, you are definitely the biggest fan!

At least you don’t just post “First” like so many others!

Poor Guy… didn’t know there was a test involved when he married her!

  6. Anko Says:

“At least you don’t just post “First” like so many others!”

I actually write the comment out at least partially before the page comes online. I might be the biggest Last Blood fan, or at least the most crazy, but I’m not that obsessed about Marry Me. Don’t get me wrong, I like it, just not quite to the same excessive degree as LB.

  7. Dizzcity Says:

Woo! Congratulations on getting a second page out within the same week! As a long time hidden fan for Marry Me, when I actually saw the update schedule being reasonably adhered to, I just had to come in and post to say thank you. So thanks, Bobby and Eisu! Keep it up.

  8. Hyoban Says:

I love the look on Guy’s face in the last panel!

  9. piedoggie Says:

    @slain

As anyone who has been in a relationship for any amount of time will tell you, there are always tests you go through to get into the relationship and to prove your commitment to the relationship. Sometimes they’re small, sometimes they’re large. And then there are tests you put yourself through even when they’re not asked for because you are committed.

  10. earlbecke Says:

Stasia looks beautiful in panel 3, great work, Eisu!

  11. Sky Says:

    Lovely, as always.

  12. Arkus Says:

…Anko you’re insane XD But yeah, Marry me is cool and I like Remy’s art but you can’t beat Zombies and Vampires.

  13. Eregnon Says:

Just out of curiosity, since I’m guessing nobody on this plane brought their passports with them, and probably nobody has a visa, how exactly are they going to get INTO Africa?

  14. That Other Guy Says:

@Eregnon: Bobby and Eisu might just skip that part of the story and refer back to it later in conversation if it needs to be explained. Simple enough literary device and it avoids undue complications in the flow of the story.

@Eisu: Marvelous art, as always. Stasia genuinely seems vulnerable in that third “panel”.

@Bobby Crosby: You’re writing makes me happy. ^_^ Damn those relationship tests to the lowest level of Dante’s Inferno.

  15. Liari Says:

“I want a guy who feels like he’d be ruining the chance of a lifetime if he broke my heart.” That line nearly broke mine. Bittersweet and wistful. Incredible writing. Thanks.

  16. Sarah Says:

Ha! That’s what every woman wants Ana, too bad it’s an unrealistic, unhealthy, and idealistic desire.
“Testing” how much a person loves you is never a good idea, because you’re both going to end up disapointed. I can’t wait to see how thier relationship gets past her obvious control issues. :)

  17. TheFatman Says:

Friggen LOVE the third panel. My compliments to eisu. And yaaaa…forcing anything in a relationship is never a good thing:P. I see a rather emotionally messy trip ahead of the young marrieds.

  18. TheFatman Says:

this occurred to me after… Ana seems to have a bad habit of cutting and running when her relationships get complicated. as relationships tend to get, whether they’re going good or bad…they take work, and she needs to work for them too. it doesnt just happen all on its own.

  19. jose lope Says:

    the test… dun dun dun…

Now, is our man still awake at this point? and is that a frown?

  20. Paul Says:

w00t! A new page and on my birthday no less. I wonder what Stasia has in mind for poor Guy, and Lord knows what kind of trouble Parker will stir up in Africa. =P

  21. Bobby Crosby Says:

“Ana seems to have a bad habit of cutting and running when her relationships get complicated.”

There’s zero evidence to suggest this. Not sure what you’re talking about. All we’ve really heard about her past relationships is that they suck, they’ve all ended in disaster, and Lebron James dumped her.

“she needs to work for them too. it doesnt just happen all on its own.”

    I’m sure she does.

“Just out of curiosity, since I’m guessing nobody on this plane brought their passports with them, and probably nobody has a visa, how exactly are they going to get INTO Africa?”

The discussion about the passport issue several pages ago was so long that about 10 people got banned from the comments during it. Google is your friend.

    Glad you liked it, Liari.

    Happy Birthday, Paul.

  22. Unati. Says:

Hmm, I liked this page a lot.
I find it weird though, that people in the comments are saying that she shouldn’t test love, or that pushing is bad.
They’re not in love, they’re not reeeeeally in a relationship..
The impression I got was that she just wants to see what kind of person he is, and whether he is nice. :\

Still, great page! Loooove panel three. :3
And Guy looks so sad in the last panel. :(

  23. Hydrogen-Crane Says:

Based on Stacia’s Criteria for choosing a random guy with a “Marry Me” sign, she should realize how easily she could have gotten a douchebag and not someone as altruistic as Guy. No man is ever perfect, because that’s how humans are. But she did real well for a random pick. She seems to not appreciate that fact. He’s altruistic, open minded, and willing to get to know people even if it means literally studying books all night. But he never started off as being in love with Stacia.
Then again, we do have a real life story about someone impulsively marrying a douchebag, or at least someone the world loves to joke about being one. (”Don’t shave, don’t shower, and walk around with a sense of undeserved acomplishment.”) Was Stacia with one of those who pour themselves a glass of privilidge?

  24. Bobby Crosby Says:

“But she did real well for a random pick. She seems to not appreciate that fact.”

Don’t know why you say that. She just said that maybe she found “him” (great guy) yesterday. And I don’t know who you’re referring to in the second paragraph.

  25. Sayo Says:

Love the look on Guy’s face at the end! ^o^

  26. dan Says:

Even though this is COMPLETELY out there and will probably never happen I would LOVE if somewhere in Africa Guy showed that he can kick ass. Maybe some thugs try to rob them and he whoops their asses or some guys are hassling an young lady and he gets rid of them. That would be somewhat cool.

Also I am sure she will put him with children where he will have to show his passionate side.

Also she will probably make him work in bad conditions, maybe sleep on the ground like the rest of them.

I bet Guy has some hard stuff in his future.

  27. dan Says:

By the way people before this goes on any further. They are not in love. They just met like what 2 days ago?

Ana wants to see what Guy really is like. She knows about his job, where he was born, that he was a nerd in high school, and a few other things. Is that enough to love somebody and trust them and everything else that comes with a real relationship?

We will have to see to what degree she takes this. If she just tests how he reacts to certain situations that would be fine. All that will do is reveal him to her. However if, just saying this as a possibility, her want for a guy who loves her, that has small problems, and is dedicated to her manifest into unhealthy situations and events we will have problems.

  28. Prof B Hunnydew Says:

Stacia seems to have a level head about boyfriends, but one wonders about the “Tests” she puts them through. Guy will or would pass any “normal” test of Stacia’s, or outlast what the other pretty boy BFs didn’t. But Ana may go too far.

Guy being still awake is a good possibility, but also he is a guidiance councilor. He will know, what Stacia is up to with her test. Just not what the test is. But I have a feeling Fate will throw a curve at both Stacia and Guy, which will test them both.

Great third Panel… and Janny is more a mother then to her own child in this. I am getting to like her alot.

    PBH

  29. Bobby Crosby Says:

“They just met like what 2 days ago?”

    Less than 15 hours ago.

  30. Gram Says:

Seems like this will be an easy test for a teacher. since they basicly work for carity at there wages

  31. dragonmage06 Says:

Stasia’s gorgeous in the third panel. I just love the angle and the pose and everything. I predict that Guy will pass most of the tests with flying colors, but maybe that’s just my hopes talking :D

  32. Saccha Says:

@Sarah: From the way she phrased it, I don’t think it’s a test of love, but a test of how good of a person you are. Maybe she puts her boyfriends in charge of something controversial or somewhat repulsive to see how they react and treat the human beings involved.

  33. Geigerus Says:

    I really fancy Janny.
    Get me her number? ;)

  34. Stephanie Says:

OOOOoooooerrrrr. I love it, as usual. Thanks for posting so soon, too! +the art in this one is especially good. Mwahhhs.
    Anywayses– 2 suggestions
    1. You could possibly maybe lighten up on us commenters…we aren’t trying to be all ANA’S OBNOXIOUS!, but I think that we’ve all experienced similar situations and our readings are influenced by this. I usually agree with you on everything (especially when someone’s like HEY ANA DID THIS…when she didn’t), but we only comment because we’re fans (or because we’re really obnoxious…).
    2. OH MAN KEEP WRITING//DRAWING THE WAY YOU AREEEE; I LOOOOVE IT! I’m so excited for Africa!! I think the writing is really great because all of the characters are really accessible; they’re easy to relate to, yet complex enough not to be boring. :D

  35. Cobalt Says:

“Seems like this will be an easy test for a teacher. since they basicly work for carity at there wages”

Last I checked teachers get paid decent for the work they do, at least in Texas.

Also, Guys expression at the end made me giggle.

  36. norman728 Says:

Hurray on the update! The story is moving along nicely. I just hope it doesn’t follow the full Romatic comedy cliche, (still waiting for that shoe to drop.

  37. Pamela Says:

    *all ominous like* It starts!!

All I can say is this…Ana, you’re fighting a losing battle in your search for ‘The One’!!

Anyhoo, keep it comin, guys, you guys are rockin’ in the free world!!!

  38. the9thdude Says:

YEAH! GOOD JOB! Keep it up!

    I love this comic…

  39. Quetzala Says:

    Woah! Pretty harsh there!

  40. DeaconJ Says:

Poor Ana! Her luck is still not going well (for now). One of her reasons for picking a man out of the audience to marry was that she wanted someone who “already loves me.” So, who does she pick? Guy, who was only there because his best friend dragged him there, isn’t a fan, and didn’t know much of anything about her. The only reason he was holding the sign in the first place was that Parker made him do it while she took a break. In short, she picked the man who wasn’t in love with her.

So far, he’s trying to figure her out so he can help her, but that doesn’t translate to being in love with her, or deciding that he wants to stay with her. So far all the comments have been about what Ana should or shouldn’t do, but no one seems to think that Guy has a choice - and he does.

Which is what is going this very interesting when it all plays out!

  41. Nomad_Soul Says:

Cobalt, generally, teachers get paid a pittance compared to the rest of the job market. Around here, you get a ton of work, at not very much pay. The teaching profession is considered to be generally undesireable because of that around here. I wouldn’t know if Guy gets paid a pittance or a decent wage, but I wouldn’t bet on it being much.

How much do guidance counselors get anyway? They’re not exactly teaching staff, so I’m not too sure. Come to think of it, aren’t guidance counselors typically drawn from volunteer final year and post grad students?

  42. EbonyAngel Says:

Loved the series since day 1 and i’m glad to see its not dying down any time soon. I love the expression on Guy’s face, especially cause its obvious from the last page that he’s not sleep and is probably listening to the whole conversation (another attempt to “study” stasia maybe?) Keep up the great work guys.

  43. Andrechi Says:

I will just say…. GUY WILL NOT FAIL!!!

  44. Bartimaeus Says:

    “Test”?

    Uh-oh…

  45. David Kastrup Says:

    @dan:
    > By the way people before this goes on any further. They are not in love. They just met like what 2 days ago?

When is one allowed to be “in love”? Both are committed to the welfare of the other. And both of them are being sucked in by each other fast since the other one turns out a much better (and in particular, loving and lovable) pick than they could have expected.

It is my prediction that Ana will at the end be quite unhappy finding out that they _are_ married after all, and so she missed out on saying “I do” when she really meant it, because of who he is and not because of where she was.

  46. Mel Says:

“I wanted someone who already loves me, so I don’t have to make him love me”?

“I want a guy who feels like he’d be ruining the opportunity of a lifetime if he broke my heart”?

Does anyone else hate her? She’s such a weakling. What the hell is wrong with her?

  47. David Kastrup Says:

Oh, and about that test: I guess that Guy will, being prepared for getting tested, keep his cool in a terribly frightening or dangerous situation, on the assumption that it is staged.

Either that, or commit to fail in order to save Ana from committing to a life with him (yes, some people are like that).

  48. Paav Says:

So Ana is human. It’s interesting to see that she does have a selfish side. Ana seems to want someone who is so devoted to her, she can torture him however she wants.

The way Ana’s expressions change from panel to panel is just great. From dreamy and intraspective in panel three, to the slightly confused hopeful look in panel four, to the steely determination of panel five and finally the assured relaxed look of knowing exactly how she is going to procede, the progression is just spot on. Plus, Guy’s grimmace in the last panel puts it over the top.

  49. Soni Says:

I feel myself really looking forward to not only the next strip, but the next dozen strips. Really great work guys. :D

  50. Arrianna Says:

Smart move on the “test”. In the courtship class I took ages ago one of the things they emphasized was to make sure and see how your “significant other” acted outside their comfort zone. That is how you peel away the layers see what they are really like and not just how they act in public. Mine passed with flying colors. :D

  51. Alex Says:

    *laughs* Diabolical!

  52. Lan Says:

If you look at it the right way it looks like guy’s face is almost saying “man, i can’t believe this girl.”

  53. Bobby Crosby Says:

“Ana seems to want someone who is so devoted to her, she can torture him however she wants.”

Jeez! That’s definitely not what’s intended, just to let you know. If you re-read Page 1, you’ll see that her last three boyfriends were all big celebrities, which implies that possibly all of her boyfriends have been celebrities as well. She’s also said she wants a boyfriend that SHE chooses for herself and she’s strongly implied that she does whatever her dad (also her manager) tells her to do and that her private life affects her career. She’s basically let her dad set her up with guys for years, with other celebrities, and none of them have worked out, many of which apparently failing because she’s been dumped, because she “can’t make them love her,” probably because they’re too preoccupied with loving themselves in many cases. She thinks a non-celebrity big fan of hers would be the opposite of that and already love her and simply make it so she at least wouldn’t have to worry about that aspect and try so hard and fail so painfully. She’s perfectly willing to try hard at things, especially a relationship, but she’s just extremely tired of getting her heart broken. It’s complicated. It’s certainly not about wanting to torture a guy. And Janny said “put him to work in Africa” and we know that they’re going to do charity work. Obviously she’s just going to “test” him to see if he’ll do basic charity work and and such — it’s nothing bad or stupid. Most of her ex-boyfriends wouldn’t even touch a starving kid probably.

  54. Jo Says:

Very good plot, I enjoy the work so much that I really mean this:
    HURRY UP!!!!!
Jeez, how long do I have to wait?

Anyway, I think Ana has the right idea here! She knows how to test a Guy. (Nice play on words, I know)
    :) :) :) !!!

  55. Lydia Says:

Aaw, Guy doesn’t wanna go to Africa anyway. xD

Suddenly had the image of her father and his assistant pulling up to their plane with jet packs.

    “LAND THIS THING NOW!!!”

  56. Eisu Says:

“If you look at it the right way it looks like guy’s face is almost saying “man, i can’t believe this girl.””

Except this is the wrong way to see it. As everyone else had surmised, the look is of fear of what “test” is coming up

“Very good plot, I enjoy the work so much that I really mean this:
    HURRY UP!!!!!
Jeez, how long do I have to wait?”

Now, you said you really mean this, so, it’s not joke… so here’s my answer, “wait til it’s up whenever it is”

  57. Cobalt Says:

“Come to think of it, aren’t guidance counselors typically drawn from volunteer final year and post grad students?”

I highly doubt that all counselors are volunteers, mainly because people that are volunteering still aren’t certified by the APA and are being mentored by someone who is (Generally someone that works there, meaning not all the counselors at any one school could be volunteers).

I don’t really consider what a teacher gets paid to be a pittance, it’s more than enough to live comfortably, just not lavishly. That’s by my experience though, and every state (and district within it really) is different.

  58. TheFatman Says:

uh, in response to what Crosby said about my comment: chill. please. i was just speculating, in relation to what was said in the last panel, and her disdain for relationships in general. no offense was meant to the fictional characters.

  59. Satoshieyes Says:

I just want to say, that even though their are some long waits for this comic.
I feel that you cant rush “Eisu” his work is amazing and we should just appreciate the fact that we get to see it.

As for bobby crosby Your work is amazing on everything you do plus ev, LB and of course this, please keep it up:)
You have the some of the few comics i actually like to read:)

  60. TheFatman Says:

by the way, i’m still just commenting as a fan. i really do like your work. hope to see more of it in the future :)

  61. Bobby Crosby Says:

“uh, in response to what Crosby said about my comment: chill. please.”

Banned obviously. Don’t tell me to chill when there was absolutely no reason to, moron. You said something that made no sense and I said it didn’t make sense very nicely and you tell me to please chill? Most annoying thing ever.

  62. Kyle Says:

Just sayin’ I like the comic. Eisu, Crosby, great job.
Hope you’re havin’ fun makin’ it, too.

  63. Hydrogen-Crane Says:

It was the “and them some, yeah” line that made me wonder about her resolve. That she was having big doubts about her new marriage and wanted to test its bonds right away. Sometimes my views on the way some deeply religious people act shaped my view. Like the way some people of faith feel like they have to scientifically “prove” God exists or else their faith means nothing. It also did not occur to me how big a douchebag her charity hating dad (What a character!) would try to arrange marriage for. But I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised if he used how they regarded charitable acts as criteria.
Who I was refering to in my 2nd paragraph were Brit and K-Fed; more of an obscure reference to a K-Fed joke from an ep of “Family Guy”. I would laugh too. Then Brit went nuts and K-Fed was deemed the more responsible parent by a judge. I never was a fan of either and her attitude on politics just rubs me the wrong way. I also just was hesistant to outright call K-Fed a douchebag because the emotional factor just wasn’t strong enough for me. That and I was trying to be inoffensive. I hope this clarifies things.

“But she did real well for a random pick. She seems to not appreciate that fact.”

Don’t know why you say that. She just said that maybe she found “him” (great guy) yesterday. And I don’t know who you’re referring to in the second paragraph.

  64. Hydrogen-Crane Says:

PS: I read “SORE THUMBS” and “NO PINK PONIES” regularly. Great job the both of you!

  65. Bobby Crosby Says:

“It was the ‘and them some, yeah’ line that made me wonder about her resolve.”

It only makes sense that she’d thoroughly check out the guy she just MARRIED even more than some random boyfriend.

“That she was having big doubts about her new marriage and wanted to test its bonds right away.”

Janny said she gives the test to all her boyfriends. And how can you not have big doubts about someone you just met like 14 hours ago?

And neither of us having anything to do with the making of “Sore Thumbs,” just to let you know, but we appreciate your support! Be sure to download all the books on WOWIO (if you’re in America)! (Well, I’ve suggested the ideas for several ST strips, but that’s about it.)

  66. David Kastrup Says:

I think that the “and then some” is mostly for quiescing her (partly externalized, like in the form of “Daddy”) bad conscience for the rash marriage. I think she is banking on Guy passing.

She knows there is a load of discouragement headed towards her, and she needs to build up her strength and confidence to weather that.

  67. norman728 Says:

The “And then some comment” does sound ominus. and could explain Guy’s expression. But, I’m sure it’s benign.

P.S. I’m a moderately big fan I read maybe five Webcomics a day. and almost all of them have the Crosby name attached. (Sorry, Eisu, I’ll keep look out for your stuff.)

    P.S.S Two Words: Where’s Denny?

  68. Arty Says:

Man am I glad I found this place again! ;0; ( Long story short, computer died 6 weeks ago, lost all info, including fave websites and comics. Back to now, new computer, blank slate. D: )

One of my fave up and coming comics.. o_o Really, I have no idea how I stumbled across it, but glad I did.

Hm.. I’m thinking Ana is kinda surprised that this guy is so on the up-and-up, really… As she’s said, her previous loves have been mega-flops, so… it only makes sense to be kinda thrown off when you finally meet such a genuine guy.
    As for the tests… I think she’s still suspicious. You know the old saying “too good to be true” has gotta be swimming in that mind o’ hers. ^^;

  69. Carlyarlyarly Says:

Okay as to the school guidance counselor salary comments, I live in Oklahoma, and our teachers are ranked 48th in the nation for salary, the average being less than $38,000 a year for the 2005-06 school year. I don’t know how closely this pertains to a guidance counselor, but our educational staff is definitely underpaid.

  70. Bloodwrath Says:

The page title reminds me of Christina Aguilera’s ‘What a Girl wants’ song. The song would work perfectly for this comic! (Or this part at least)

  71. Proxess Says:

Ana looks dang sexy in panel 3!! In the last panel Guy looks like Homer Simpson thinking “DOH”!

  72. ErinBerin Says:

Long time reader, first time poster — just stopping by to say how much I love this comic… Bobby and Eisu make a great team.

Also, I was just wondering for the sake of wondering, about how many pages is this comic going to be? I remember reading a while back that it’s supposed to be approximately 80 pages and if so, you’re more than halfway through! Of course, I don’t mind if it’s 80 or 800 pages, I just wanna see a happy, squishy ending! :-)

  73. Bobby Crosby Says:

Thanks for the info, Carly — and yeah, Guy’s definitely not making much money, especially since he’s just starting his second year on the job.

Also, probably gonna be between 85 and 90 pages now.

  74. Kiir Says:

    Poor guy…

  75. BigText Says:

I know I’m going to be the only one to say this, but to me, Stasia looks REALLY ugly in that third panel. The sudden jump in detail makes her look really old with bad makeup, to me at least.

  76. Maria Says:

I don’t think she looks ugly… I think she looks as tired as I would be if I’d barely got any sleep and was jetting off to Africa under great stress. Also, she’s probably not wearing much makeup, since she has hardly stopped to paint her face before fleeing the country.

    I love this comic :-)

  77. Kara Says:

Wow, Stasia’s line is so quoteable (going up on facebook now) “I want a guy one…” Loves it.

  78. Erebr Says:

    Work? Ominous…

Is it wrong that I want this to be the eastern hemisphere side of the “last blood” story? with the zombie invasion beggining right after the plane touches down in Africa? or the zombie story for the women, with their love for each other persisting even through their zombification and subsequent devouring of papa dearest….

  79. Acerynn Says:

    Bobby-
I found an article on counsellors and their earnings…

    ——————————

Most school counsellors work full-time. There is a growing need for their services, and they are becoming involved in new areas such as crisis counselling and multicultural issues. However, government spending restraints may result in more part-time work and shared positions among schools. Since school counsellors can be considered non-teaching staff, they are often among the first to be affected by cutbacks.

Salaries range from $25,000 to $85,000 a year, depending on seniority and level of education (counsellors with master’s degrees or PhDs are generally paid more). As school counsellors gain seniority, they receive increases. The average yearly income for all school counsellors is approximately $53,000.

The demand for various types of educators has been growing lately in many provinces, as members of the “baby boom” generation retire.

In addition to their salaries, full-time school counsellors usually receive benefits, such as pension plans and dental coverage.

  80. Caulfield Says:

There’s a funny little dot near Stasia in panel 3, just to the left… Even though I’m aware it’s part of the art, I always try to rub it off the screen, thinking it’s grime. I’m weird like that.

  81. Hephaestos Says:

Just came over here to read from LB….I must say, the two comics have a very different atmosphere and quite different characters, but you somehow manage to make both come over realistically, convincing and without one-dimensional characters. All of that with, for some characters, still very few lines. The sign of a really great writer.
    Keep up the good work!

  82. Brother_Wessick Says:

I am impressed by the number of people who doubt the possibility of Love at first site. Now of course… it is rare, but maybe…just maybe there is a chance that 15 hours….

And alot of book reading from Guy, is enough to at least get a feel for it.

Mr. Crosby, love the comic. I have been reading it from page one… and in case anyone asks for more updates.

God help them…they need to calm down.

  83. Carol Says:

I love the expressions on this page. Expecially Janny’s for some reason. I guess I kinda felt that I could relate to her in this page. I don’t have a sister but I do have several really close friends who have bad luck in thier relationships so I know how it is to be the one who is kinda keeping an eye on them and hoping that they get what they deserve. In the um.. 5th panel her expression reminds me of when my friend tells me about a new relationship and I’m mentally preparing myself for those first kinda ‘testing the waters’ days when it could go either way.

  84. maria Says:

I don’t like Ana to much anymore. This whole testing thing is horrible. Who is she to test him? Why shouldn’t he have the right to test her first to see if she fits his approval. Not saying that’s the way it should be. It’s getting from them being in the same boat, married to a stranger, to Ana only caring about her wellbeing, instead of their wellbeing. Induvalism hoeray. And I think, and hope, the character of Guy feels the same way. And let Ana learn a lesson. Just have to wait and find out I guess.

  85. Bobby Crosby Says:

Uh, her main test is probably just to make sure he doesn’t HATE CHILDREN and/or HATE AFRICAN CHILDREN, by the way. That’s a test some of her ex-boyfriends have failed!

  86. Dustin Arsenault Says:

    Is he really awake?
    Is he listening?
    Whats this test?
    what?
    who?
    Africa?
    Aids?
    Food?
    War Releife?
    Too Many E’s?

  87. Jonathan Says:

Hey guys I made a Forum for the different Projects by Bobby you should head over!

    http://z15.invisionfree.com/BobbyCrosby_Fansite

  88. Jonathan Says:

Agggh Xenon if your from this Site Im sorry I deleted you!!! Im messing around with the settings and deleted the entire Members group

  89. LydiaRaven Says:

Slaine - “Poor Guy… didn’t know there was a test involved when he married her!”

-he didnt know that marrige was involved when he married her XD

  90. TRESCHIC Says:

    i love this comic

  91. Hydrogen-Crane Says:

Eisu does have this talent for drawing some cute dark haired lesbians. But I guess Parker and Mureen aren’t really each other’s type outisde of filling the “must like girls” criteria. (Who here also read’s NO PINK PONIES by Eisu? I came across Eisu via MARRY ME and trhough it found N.P.P.)
Actually, I remember reading an obscure advice column some years back warning insecure people about trying to test a relationship they were in. They just might end up breaking it. That’s why the “test” word raised a little red flag. And yes, Guy can seem too good to be true in a world where douches are a dime a dozen.

  92. Phake Says:

Stasia’s head is actually pretty big in the 3rd “panel”.

  93. BintMejnuna Says:

I think a test is perfectly reasonable. My mother tested my father plenty before they got married. She “borrowed” her nephew to see how my dad reacted around children and things like that. What if your partner gets violent when stressed? You’re probably going to want to know that before you get married.

  94. Alphastrike Says:

First time commenting, although I’ve really been enjoying Bobby and Eisu’s work.

I also had an immediate “Oh, no” reaction to Ana mentioning a test. Not that I suspect Guy will fail. (I honestly expect him to say things like, “What do we have to work with? Where do you want me?” from the moment he’s out the door and blow Ana away.) Rather, mentioning a “test” does carry a “me” connotation that most people are attuned to recognize and thus the immediate gut reader reaction.

However, I understand that Stasia is well advised to be cautious in her position. It’s a sad statement of her life that such a test is necessary. I think Bobby’s covered enough of the relationship with her father to foreshadow it properly.

I’m actively looking forward to see what happens when they land in Africa. “Marry Me” is definitely a winner in that the characters are endearing and that you always want to see what happens next.

  95. Riunin Says:

It looks like he feels guilty for hearing that.

  96. Rock Says:

How often does this update? And how about LB?

  97. Daisygirlk Says:

I love the comic by the way, man I feel for guy in that last bit he looks so sad :( great work! Can’t wait to hear more about these tests… scary.

  98. Steff Says:

“Then I’ll hope we’re not really married?”
    Ouch. That’s gotta hurt.

  99. Bobby Crosby Says:

“How often does this update? And how about LB?”

Check the lighted up dates on the calendar to the right of the blog for each strip and/or read the dates of the last several pages to get an idea for how often the comics update. Both comics update whenever a new page is done, and that schedule varies wildly.

  100. Richard Says:

bob you have done a great job with this web comic, found it off of a website fanboyz.com and started reading in one go. congrats and good luck in the future. also gotta say i kinda wished they would have brought the bus driver with them. also cant wait to see the father waiting in africa when she gets off the plane.

  101. Erin Says:

I’m just waiting for Janny to go into labor because she looks pretty far along
Also where is the baby’s father?

  102. Jonathan Says:

Erin: The baby’s father is out of the picture, and wont be making an important apperance if any at all.

  103. Kamui Says:

Hmm, it should be quite interesting to see these tests. I’m confident Guy will pass them all with flying (or at least hovering) colors though. ^_^

  104. invaderhog Says:

Heh, poor Guy. Wonder what kind of work he’ll get stuck doing… I agree with Ana! We all deserve that kind of guy! Woot!

  105. annoyed Says:

you should really change the “new page every m-w-f” to “new page w/e i get around to it.” -.-

  106. Daniel Says:

Richard: If I’m not mistaken, the bus driver told her dad they were going to Australia instead of Africa. Also, can’t wait for next update ^_^

  107. Daniel Says:

    ^Sorry, it was Alaska.

  108. Sam Says:

This comic and especially Bobby C’s comments on stupid people make me happy. Keep up the good work guys and I’ll keep drooling after the updates! :-)

  109. Karia Says:

If she’s nice, she’ll have him read to some orphans. If she’s mean, he’ll probably have to shovel goat poo. Here’s hoping for the former.

  110. Bobby Crosby Says:

Update on the update schedule: Don’t be too shocked if there are three or more new pages up next week!

  111. shuzuko Says:

Bobby, I will cry if you’re just saying that to get back at “annoyed” a few comments earlier…

But I will love you forever if you aren’t :D

  112. Chibi Says:

I just caught up and I have to say, this is one of the best comics I’ve read. ^^ this isn’t usually my style of comic but damn, well done! can’t wait to see where it all goes from here.

  113. Lemniskate Says:

Oh, I wish I discovered this later when it’s finished, so suspense wouldn’t kill me.

  114. The nobody Says:

I find this comic great one of the best comics ever also something.

  115. Richard Says:

daniel sorry i didnt mean to imply the bus driver told the father where they had gone, but just to see that he guessed they were going to africa instead and was there waiting.

  116. Richard Says:

daniel: sorry i didnt mean to imply the bus driver told the father where they had gone, but just to see that he guessed they were going to africa instead and was there waiting.

  117. Richard Says:

daniel: sorry i didnt mean to imply the bus driver told the father where they had gone, but just to see that he (father)guessed they were going to africa instead and was there waiting.

  118. SI-ERRA Says:

does he clean up elephant dung? : O monkeys? Animal reserve’s!?!?!?!
-EXPLODES- ON WITH IT MADAME!! X3

  119. SI-ERRA Says:

and by madam I mean stasia XD

  120. Mel Says:

this is awesome hope for more

  121. Andy-o Says:

Hey Bobby, how did Wowio work out? Did Eisu and you make a lot of money from it? :P

  122. Bobby Crosby Says:

Andy: Got paid a nice amount of money for the third quarter, even though MM was only on WOWIO for the last month of the third quarter. Fourth quarter not going quite as great in terms of average downloads per day, since the issues are older now, but will still make more than the third quarter overall, since it will be on for the full three months. Get paid mid-February for the fourth quarter. Looking forward to that!

  123. Spicy Says:

    Must… keep… from… whining…
I adore this comic, and am impatient… but good things come to those who wait right?

    Keep up the good work!

  124. Cassie Says:

Oh! The suspense! I love Guy! He’s amazing, or at least what I’ve seen of him so far…I love that he doesn’t give psychological mambo jumbo even if he is a counselor.

I kind of hope they’re married!
    ~CassieMadison~

  125. KayRis Says:

I just reread all of Marry Me and, I’ve gotta say, I loved it as much as I did the first time! I just wish it had another update…But I’m not pushing anyone! I’m just saying that with Last Blood finished and all…you know…now that you’ve got less on your plate Bobby…but I can wait. I should actually probably be studying for my final tomorrow morning.

Eisu, you do great work, too! I love the way Ana looks in panel 3 (despite what some losers have said). This comic got me started on reading No Pink Ponies.

Can’t wait ’till the next update (seriously, having some trouble, but it’s only because it’s so good)!

  126. Bobby Crosby Says:

“now that you’ve got less on your plate Bobby”

I have more on my plate now than ever before in my life. And I gotta figure out the whole plot of and start writing the second LB GN right now, which is MUCH tougher than writing the first one, and I gotta write the LB screenplay like INSTANTLY, and a trillion other things, BLAH.

  127. Some guy over there Says:

I like this comic, but I bet that it turns out that they aren’t married but they end up falling in love any way so they say to hex with it and get married for reals. Thats my thoughts, love the comic, think its funny, try to get the next one here without over working your selves, and have a wonderful holiday.

  128. KayRis Says:

Oooh, sorry, that sucks. I hope you manage not to completely lose your mind with stress. That leads to other bad things, you know, and what would your adoring fans do of you were out of commission? I don’t mean to pressure you (I know how bad that can suck), and I know you’ll get around to it when you get the chance. You do great work, and that’s why people (like me) get impatient! We can wait for a while!

  129. Darya Says:

New reader here, and I just gotta say that I am LOVING this comic! Guy’s face in the last panel rocks so hard, and Parker is made of win. :D

  130. stacey wray Says:

    hello hello
im very impressed with your artwork
i and my partner are looking for an artist for an on line comic
if you are interested in an urban based comic please give me an e-mail back so i can fill you in on our idea
    ty
    happy thoughts
    stacey

  131. Blitzmidfielder Says:

Hey, I just started reading this comic, and I don’t think it rocks.

I KNOW it rocks, and I can see it in theatres now. The characters are memorable, the plot hilarious and refreshing (and especially sweet). I’d love to play Guy if it made it to the screen, but me being a nobody hurts those chances.

I love this comic. Please keep posting.

  132. Vic Says:

Argh, I just discovered this comic, but it doesn’t seem to be updating anymore

  133. Bobby Crosby Says:

Vic: There will probably be three new pages this week.

  134. Brendan Says:

Just wanted to say I like the comic so far. The story doesn’t seem as rushed as I thought it would be, has a nice pace to it, frantic but not in a bad way. Not to mention I love the art style.

Anyway, just wanted to say you guys are doing a nice job and I’ll keep my eye out on this one as you update.

  135. John McMullen Says:

Wowio only available to U.S. residents?

Well, for those of us who are not U.S. residents, that’s…bad.

    Good work so far!

  136. dave Says:

this comic is soo cool, not as good as last blood though, that rocks, just started reading it today,

  137. Naoko Says:

“Ha! That’s what every woman wants Ana, too bad it’s an unrealistic, unhealthy, and idealistic desire.”

It might be extremely unrealistic to expect that in someone you met 15 hours ago, but it’s far from unrealistic in real life. A lot of guys want that same thing, too, even if they don’t say it - I’ve met a ton who do.

Maybe it’s kind of unrealistic for a celebrity though, hah… They seem to have a lot of trouble with relationships. Oh wells.

Bobby - 3 pages would be a dream. ^^ I just want to get to Africa!

  138. Will Says:

Love this comic, estimated time on the next update? its been nearly two/three weeks! the suspense is killing me! :-)

  139. Evans Says:

just be patient. it’s the holiday season everyone is busy around this time.

  140. Saphiria Says:

Wow, Stasia looks so much older in panel 3.

Poor guy… He looks so cute/sad in the last panel!

  141. Ryquan Says:

I loved how stasia said she just wanted someone who already loved her, and she ended up with someone who wasnt even a fan, let alone loved her.

And thanks for the awesome comic! its amazing that some panels are totally focused on an awesome dialogue, and then the next panel will be all about the priceless art.

Thanks again for an awesome read :D
