whoa! i would not want to mess with their dad. and i feel kind of bad for him…11 more hours in a plane…oh well at least stacia has some time to mess things up even more.
May 11th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
I kind of like him. =D I think I know where Stasia gets her craziness from.
May 11th, 2007 at 4:57 pm
Bass from DOA? Does that mean that Stasia is Tina’s sister?!?
May 11th, 2007 at 5:15 pm
Just have to say, that I think this one is the best yet. Great expressions, but not overdone, so they still are very human. I think that’s why I like it so.
And come on, Bass doesn’t look anything like that. He’s just big and bearded also.
May 11th, 2007 at 5:44 pm
This is a great webcomic
May 11th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
its Detective Gumshoe from Phoenix Wright!
May 11th, 2007 at 6:26 pm
Love the first panel. It looks awesome. And those poor, poor pilots. Expressions in the last panel rock, as usual.
May 11th, 2007 at 6:42 pm
Love the new page, as usual. Not that I don’t also want to read the comment, and I love Eisu’s art, but I really want to see this as a movie ASAP! T^T
May 11th, 2007 at 6:43 pm
PS. You’re saving some suprises for the movie, right?
May 11th, 2007 at 6:45 pm
This is irrelevant, but he looks like he would make an awesome pirate. He could have just come back from pillaging the Japanese countryside and doing battle with ninjas.
heh ^_^
May 11th, 2007 at 6:48 pm
He would be a good pirate!
And we are saving some surprises for the movie, certainly, like getting to actually hear some of Stasia’s songs, for one thing!
May 11th, 2007 at 7:13 pm
yo, i’ve been meaning to drop a comment, but i’m lovin’ the story line thus far. it’s original and quorky and it makes my day happier XD. i’m also really liking the art work, it goes a long very nicely with the writting style. anyway, any hope of getting it published?
May 11th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
The pilot on the left looks so frightened.
May 11th, 2007 at 8:40 pm
“Damn the thunderheads, full speed ahead!”
May 11th, 2007 at 9:04 pm
Hello,
Although I’ve been following Marry Me since the 3rd or 4th comic, this is my first time posting. I’ve been very curious as to how the movie will be produced. Are you being contracted to write a story for a film company, is this an independent and privately run film you are going to put together, or am I just completely misunderstanding? Please forgive my ignorance >.
May 11th, 2007 at 9:11 pm
You know, I find it significant that he seems to be more concerned about the press than about Guy…
So maybe he will let Guy live – after all, ripping his throat out will make an even worse impression before the press.
May 11th, 2007 at 11:17 pm
Man. Those two pilots are my new OTP.
May 11th, 2007 at 11:29 pm
“anyway, any hope of getting it published?”
The first 24 pages are at the printer right now for a full color 24-page issue, which will be available to purchase on this site in 2-4 weeks when it’s done printing. The final graphic novel will be published by Blatant Comics, same publisher as Last Blood, one of my other comics. Marry Me won’t be a regular comic book series, though, or at least not yet — we’ll just publish the final graphic novel of about 80 pages.
“I’ve been very curious as to how the movie will be produced.”
Who knows. It’s way too big of a budget for me to make myself, so the goal is just to sell the idea/comic/screenplay to Hollywood for the big bucks.
May 11th, 2007 at 11:50 pm
Anyone else see Brian Blessed as Stasia’s Father?
Not a guy you’d wanna mess with…
May 12th, 2007 at 1:48 am
Woo-oh, approaching of big ol’ daddy! He seems perfect as Stasias dad.. no wonder she’s so funnystrange XD I wish we could get to know her mother too.
May 12th, 2007 at 3:24 am
That weather shouldn’t be a problem for a jet at cruising altitude (wich is well above the clouds).
May 12th, 2007 at 3:31 am
The pilot on the right looks like Lupin. Anyone see this or am I crazy? Love the comic thus far, despite the dramatic pauses. ^__^
May 12th, 2007 at 6:35 am
Wow, Stasia’s dad is just as intense as I imagined him
If I was a reporter writing a story about HIS daughter, I’d be seriously intimidated.
May 12th, 2007 at 7:02 am
I love the pilots expressions!
May 12th, 2007 at 8:13 am
Love it. He’s awesome.
Are the pilots related? They look slightly similar.
May 12th, 2007 at 11:24 am
It’s officiai- her dad is the most sympathetic, personable guy I ever saw!
This is going to be interesting.
May 12th, 2007 at 11:59 am
I love the two pilots! Even the one who didn’t say anything. X3
Lovely first panel!
May 12th, 2007 at 12:05 pm
*squee*
Finally new page!!! i love the last panel! and the poor pilots… lol i love dad’s panicked expression… good job guys… lol
May 12th, 2007 at 12:10 pm
oops i meant the “i’m gonna kick the presses a**-face”… lol… ^_^;
May 12th, 2007 at 1:23 pm
haha I love the look on the pilots faces!
May 12th, 2007 at 2:48 pm
I like this man quite a lot so far; nothing is more dangerous than a parent when their child is threatened.
Although, if I were Stasia, I’d come out with the story that I had actually been dating Guy for several months in secret and was pulling a stunt while doing what I wanted to actually do. Either that or claim the entire thing was merely a sociology experiment on the effect of the media’s response time and the strength of a reaction. ^___~ Can’t wait to see what you lovelies decide to do with it.
May 12th, 2007 at 4:10 pm
Well, I am not so sure if it is important for a plane how fast it goes when in rough weather. It is no ship, after all. when the weather is stormy, it just moves within its surrounding medium as usual, I guess. You can watch birds in strong gales just flying normally, but drifting in the current, wich results in backward or sideways movement when compared to the ground. Balloon drivers say even in strong winds you fell like in calm air. But I don`t know what about turbulence. Is it important how fast a plane goes in turbulent weather?
But one thing I know. A plane has two pilots, each with his own gears. But only one of them is steering. The second set is for the other taking over.
It is no bad panel after all. But when compared to the previous pages it seems weak to me. In an instant I got the nagging feeling something was not right. I believe while inscening stasias dad as a furious pirate you thougt too much ship and too less plane.
Sorry for being negative about it. I am the first to call “Marry me” a great strip. Take this comment as positive feedback – after all, the general level of this comic is so fantastic, I felt the urge to say my stuff about it. And talking about the characters, this page is fine as every one so far.
May 12th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
The line about the weather is totally pointless to the story — it’s just a way to show Joey (Stasia’s dad) being angry and wanting to quickly get to Stasia. I really don’t care at all if it’s accurate or not, since it doesn’t matter at all. I wouldn’t change it either way, because it’s more important to leave it in to transition to Joey talking about what’s more dangerous, than to just have some pointless thing be more accurate. Thanks for the info!
May 12th, 2007 at 5:47 pm
Hehehe….. Stasia’s dad reminds me of Philonel, from Slayers. If he starts making speeches about one subject in particular (like justice *shudder*), then it’ll be a definite.
Oops, my geek is showing.
Oh, and the expressions on the pilot’s faces are priceless, particularly the one on the right. It almost looks like they’ve dealt with Joey a lot, and this is just another “*siiigh* Yes, sir….” situation for them.
May 12th, 2007 at 5:50 pm
“its Detective Gumshoe from Phoenix Wright!”
my thoughts exactly
May 12th, 2007 at 9:17 pm
I think speed matters; turbulence could jar the plane more if it were going fast (probably). It doesn’t really matter I guess.
May 12th, 2007 at 11:35 pm
Go go crazy dad!
May 13th, 2007 at 12:49 am
AAHAHAHAHA
That guy in the last panel is beyond anything!!
AAHAHAHAHA
xox
May 13th, 2007 at 5:37 am
Awesome comic. Thank you free comic book day for leading me to something great. I can’t wait to see where this is going.
May 13th, 2007 at 8:16 am
I like the pilots’ expressions. I’m usually awed by Eisu’s creative expressions, though. :]
May 13th, 2007 at 10:08 am
wedge and Trevor:
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Gumshoe is teh rawk.
“Listen, pal!”
May 13th, 2007 at 3:48 pm
He’s scary. ._.; But he obviously cares enough about Stasia to gripe out the pilot, so that’s cool. XD
(Just to make sure I don’t miss saying it on this page, I still ♥ Parker.)
“Oh, and the expressions on the pilot’s faces are priceless, particularly the one on the right. It almost looks like they’ve dealt with Joey a lot, and this is just another “*siiigh* Yes, sir….†situation for them.”
Totally. XD
May 14th, 2007 at 1:22 am
Whoa…Looks pretty scary to me… Well… what can I say? Loving daddy on his way
May 14th, 2007 at 6:22 am
Oh, love this webcomic ^^
May 14th, 2007 at 11:59 am
I feel so sorry for those pilots.
May 14th, 2007 at 1:19 pm
Heh. I love this stuff, it makes me laugh.
My dad would totally do that for anyone in my family. Just so he could do it personally.
May 14th, 2007 at 3:35 pm
I have to disagree with not getting even the small details right. Even small errors detract from the ability to stay in the narrative and immerse oneself into the story you are telling. Most pilots when faced with rough weather do the sensible thing and get above it. No need to fly through a storm when you can fly in comfort above it. Now I can’t make a positive ID on the plane from the picture, but it looks like a pretty much standard 12 seater, which means it’s flight ceiling could be as high as 41,000 feet.
I’m not sure on the maximum flight range on such a craft, but I doubt it has transpacific range. It should be coming down twice for fuel on its way to the concert venue, but I doubt that’ll be happening.
Now, I realize that most people aren’t going to either a) notice or b) care. But when details that make it into a story are factually correct, that’s a big narrative plus to those who -do- notice this sort of thing.
May 14th, 2007 at 3:46 pm
“Even small errors detract from the ability to stay in the narrative and immerse oneself into the story you are telling.”
Only for the people who actually notice them as definite errors, though, which is an extremely small percentage of people in this case. It’s also not a definite error either way. I’m pretty sure there could be at least one solid reason for why they have to fly through it, even if it’s a very unlikely situation. They don’t have clearance to fly higher because there’s tons of planes above them at the moment maybe, I don’t know. Either way, it’s pretty pointless.
Stories do this all the time, especially crazy comedies like this. When it’s necessary to have a tiny possible error that very few people would even notice in order to have a good character moment that gets important information across in a good way, it’s well worth it.
May 14th, 2007 at 4:42 pm
Mm, I forgot to say… My favoritre panel is the close-up of Mr. Tyler’s chin and hand (third panel). That’s just such a cool angle.^^ + 500 points to you guys!
May 14th, 2007 at 4:47 pm
When asked how fast the ships flew on Babylon 5, one of the producers said: “At the speed of Plot. If we need it to get there in time, it does, if we need them to just miss the battle, that’s how fast it flies.” I assume the plane here flies about the same speed.
And while you’re complaining: The 1900, the smallest of the jet planes, can make it from Anchorage to Shishmaref and back on a single fueling, without worrying. I assume this plane is larger, as Joey can actually stand up in it, and would have bigger tanks. Or, that it also has gas tanks that hold “The volume of Plot.”
May 14th, 2007 at 4:51 pm
I like Colleen Marie.
May 14th, 2007 at 5:03 pm
The Gulfstream V, Gulfstream G550, and Bombardier Global Express all have the range to make it across the Pacific from Tokyo to Tulsa, Ok without refueling.
Those models also look close enough to the art to match.
As for flying through the weather (instead of above it), I assume that the aircraft was still in assent. It typically takes 30 minutes to reach the initial cruise altitude. I can see Mr Tyler as the type of person to start yelling 5 minutes after takeoff.
May 14th, 2007 at 5:04 pm
Man, you guys are having a lot of problems putting some pages out. Why don’t you take a week off from updating and instead build up a queue of comics?
I hope you don’t take offense to this post, I make the suggestion in earnest.
May 14th, 2007 at 5:20 pm
Mike, thanks for the info. Good points. I figured there had to be a logical explanation for it to make it so it wasn’t a definite error.
Andy, just don’t worry about the MWF schedule. It’s basically meaningless by now. We’re just trying to put out as many pages as we can as fast as we can, and it’s been slow at times.
May 15th, 2007 at 4:23 am
lol, of course now we know where she gets her anger management issues from… lol….
May 15th, 2007 at 4:51 am
Long time reader, first time poster. Pretty funny story so far, I really like it, that and parker is hilariously eccentric
May 15th, 2007 at 9:42 pm

Totally. XD

“I really like it, that and parker is hilariously eccentric”
Gasp!! You should join the “I ♥ Parker” group. There’s a lot of us. XD
May 16th, 2007 at 9:02 am
Just for fun, I entered a flight plan from Tokyo to Tulsa in a handy nav unit ( I work in the Avionics biz, I have lots of cool tools around the office).
At 488 kt, the cruise speed of a Gulfstream G550, it would take 11 hours and 13 minutes to get from Tokyo to Tulsa with a cruise altitude of 43,000 feet.
May 16th, 2007 at 8:50 pm
I thought the quote was “Damn the torpedoes!!! Full Speed Ahead!!!!”
