Meet the parents time already, huh? Good luck, Guy! ^^
April 23rd, 2007 at 6:11 pm
Now that is a truly classic page! I love it! Stasia’s reaction is just perfect
April 23rd, 2007 at 6:12 pm
Wow… I wonder how this dad character will be…
April 23rd, 2007 at 6:13 pm
First off…
KYEE! Eisu, you updated NPP! *Huggles*
Also, I see Parker’s being her typical self. XD I’m amazed that she didn’t knock out Guy first thing, though.
Stasia’s face in the second panel… She looks annoyed/disgusted. It’s funny. XD
Awesome work as always, guys. ♥
April 23rd, 2007 at 6:15 pm
Sorry to double-post, but I was just wondering… The state that they’re in? Is same sex marriage even legal there? That might be an issue in the movie if it’s not. I mean, y’know, it’d just sort of throw off the credibility of the sign. Or something. I’m bad at wording these things. XD
April 23rd, 2007 at 6:18 pm
sorry for the very meh previous post… but I just HAD to take the second comment for my debut post
anyways… I just LOVE the facial expressions (like everyone else does here). Seriously… They stay within the bounds of relatively realistic anime, but give the eyes and mouth full flexibility… if that makes sense….
Hee I just love Guy so much… he is SUCH an unassuming typical guy- and a perfect buffer to Parker’s craziness and Stacia’s divahood.
April 23rd, 2007 at 6:20 pm
I believe they are in Alabama, Valerie, as stated in the comic a few pages back.
I really LOVE Guy’s expression at the bottom. I can feel his frustration/stress. And Stasia looks so sarcastic in the one to the right of that. A sarcastabitch, even.
April 23rd, 2007 at 6:22 pm
If I were Stasia, I would’ve probably had a giggle fit if I found out the sign was Parker’s. The stress of the situation would have just made it the most ridiculously funny things ever.
XD “Daddy’s on his way”
Love where the story’s going, and as always, the expressions are awesome.
keep up the good work, guys!
April 23rd, 2007 at 6:22 pm
They’re actually in Oklahoma! Stasia simply thought they were in Alabama. And I don’t think same sex marriage is allowed in either of those states, no, but I wouldn’t count on that coming into play in this story.
This is one of my least favorite pages in terms of the writing (great art, as always), so I’m glad you guys seem to like it so far.
April 23rd, 2007 at 6:30 pm
“They’re actually in Oklahoma! Stasia simply thought they were in Alabama. And I don’t think same sex marriage is allowed in either of those states, no, but I wouldn’t count on that coming into play in this story.”
Ah, okay. I was just wondering if the sign would confuse people who know the marriage laws and all that, y’know? But then again, I guess Parker’s intent could have been to go to another state and marry Stasia. I think that’s what most of us in her position would do, anyway. XD
(Have I mentioned that I ♥ Parker yet today?)
April 23rd, 2007 at 6:36 pm
…Y’know, I just realized that Stasia reminds me a lot of Jess from NPP. o0 Not in personality, but I think the hair-do’s sort of similar. Could be just me, though. I’ve been caffiene-deprived today, so don’t think too much about what I say. XD
April 23rd, 2007 at 6:57 pm
Valerie, I agree 100%. I see a lot of Jess in Stasia. She has similar features, facial expressions and gestures.
Second to last panel = love.
April 23rd, 2007 at 7:03 pm
Heh! I was waiting for that explosion – now comes the real test for Guy. There are some things he could say to make things better – but will he?
April 23rd, 2007 at 7:04 pm
Hahaha, poor Guy. Stasia is all blowing up on him when REALLY, it is her fault.
He didn’t exactly have much of a choice in the matter.
Be interesting to see where this goes.
April 23rd, 2007 at 7:05 pm
Well, he already said them basically on Page 17. We’ll see what happens!
“But then again, I guess Parker’s intent could have been to go to another state and marry Stasia.”
Ha. I think Parker’s intent was to HOPEFULLY get her sign autographed as a best case scenario and that she never thought about actually having a chance to marry Stasia even in her wildest dreams.
April 23rd, 2007 at 7:22 pm
Oh wow. You know, if I was in Stasia’s shoes, I’d much rather marry a guy who didn’t like me for whut I was famous for. Who would want to marry a crazed fan in the first place?
April 23rd, 2007 at 7:28 pm
That’s true, but at this exact point she’s mostly just regretting the whole thing and wishing she didn’t do it, so she’s looking for people to blame for it and she sees all these reasons for why Guy should have said no, so she blames it on him.
April 23rd, 2007 at 7:55 pm
On previous page you said that
“We’re finally going to see the sign on Page 20!”
But to be honest – I knew what the sing was – it is reflecting in Stacia glasses on the cover of your comic =D
You and Eisu are doing a great job.
PS. I also like Last Blood very much =D
Take care!
April 23rd, 2007 at 7:56 pm
And he’s now in the mine field for sure, especially with her father on his way. If he points out that fans hold up similar signs all the time, and no reasonable person would interpret it as an actual marriage proposal – bad, he’s just called her stupid.
I’m a little perplexed, though, at what the actual problem is. Even if the marriage is valid legally and in the Church, there are obvious and abundant grounds for a quickie divorce/annulment. So far, Stacia has no real reason to treat it as real as far as I can see. She can tell the public that it was a publicity stunt.
Unless of course her father takes a “you made your bed, now lie in it” point of view…
April 23rd, 2007 at 8:25 pm
“Unless of course her father takes a ‘you made your bed, now lie in it’ point of view…”
Didn’t we discuss this at great length last page?
Sorry for the bad joke there but I just couldn’t resist.
Also, while I was reading the comments for the last page I realized something. I don’t think we know Guy’s LAST NAME yet, do we? Just wondering
April 23rd, 2007 at 8:34 pm
Simon: Yes, it was already well established that the sign says MARRY ME, but we had never actually seen the real sign itself, other than on the cover, which wasn’t what the sign actually looked like, though. Glad you’re liking MM and “Last Blood”!
Russ: First, I wouldn’t count on the marriage even being legal at all yet. Second, telling the public that it was an insane publicity stunt doesn’t exactly help someone’s image. It hurts it terribly, and you’ll see more on that soon. As I’ve said a few times in the comments, the legality of the marriage will not play much of a role at all, and for good reason. Perception is everything.
About Stasia’s father: I wouldn’t guess that he’d want the marriage to continue!
April 23rd, 2007 at 8:49 pm
Seems as though Stasia is worried about her image.
April 23rd, 2007 at 10:33 pm
Stasia’s a pop star, so she lives or dies on image – and a large part of that image for an American popstrel especially depends on ‘wholesome’. Remember the condemnation Britney got for marrying Jason Alexander (I think… Is that name right?) – a guy she actually knew and had known for years? By giving the impression that she thought of marriage as a joke she offended huge amounts of her fan base (And their parents).
What Stasia just did was actually worse, in that she’d never even met Guy and just grabbed him at random out of a crowd.
Her public image before now was obviously a good one, with all the generous donating to charity and getting involved in good causes, but the media as a whole loves nothing more than bringing down and destroying those it raises to the heights.
Even worse, fans of any performer tend to buy into the whole package not just the music (As Britney once again proves). Something like this could utterly destroy her career.
So I’d say Stasia has every right to be utterly terrified about her image right now…
April 23rd, 2007 at 10:38 pm
“Seems as though Stasia is worried about her image.”
I’d imagine. I mean, what the public thinks of her is basically what keeps her career from going downhill.
“Also, while I was reading the comments for the last page I realized something. I don’t think we know Guy’s LAST NAME yet, do we? Just wondering.”
OMG. I never even noticed that! ._. What if Stasia’s new last name is Dumbass? (Pronounced doom-bahss, of course. XD)
April 23rd, 2007 at 10:40 pm
Dang it, Elliot. You answered Pero’s question before me… And with more detail. XD
April 23rd, 2007 at 11:28 pm
Never posted before, but I’ve been reading since the beginning and I’ve been with NPP for a long while now. I have to say this is a wonderful piece of work! I fell in love with it at page one, and now it’s just getting better and better.
I think Stacia’s face in the second to last panel is gorgeously done. She has that perfect air about her that screams ‘I’m too good for this, but you already know that, don’t you?’. Honestly, it’s quite a change from the normal shouting or smiling faces. I was wondering when her ‘famous’ side would come out, and that nailed it perfectly.
Please, keep up the wonderful work, and I do hope it will become a movie eventually. It would be one that’s actually worth watching.
April 23rd, 2007 at 11:49 pm
Note also that Stasia has just had her ego bruised. “I just proposed to a random guy holding a ‘marry me’ sign *and he didn’t even like me*”. She had figured that he wasn’t a fan of her music, specifically, but now it turns out he’s not a fan *at all*. Just a random bystander.
From one perspective, it’s what she wants – someone who doesn’t “love” her for what she is. From another, she’s lost what makes her a star, the aura of adoration.
April 24th, 2007 at 12:47 am
Thank you Andrew.. you have elaborated where I cannot
April 24th, 2007 at 2:49 am
Ooh, that is SUCH a diabolic grin of Parker in the first panel…!
And Guy really searches an esape-door in the second panel with that look. XD
I love the second panel overall, it’s just a.. I don’t know.. “typical” scene for movies/series.. with one person leaning back and maybe talking a bit more quiet while asking some normal questions which will definitely lead into problems, and the other person trying but not able to avoid it.
I don’t know how to explain at all. xP Sorry.
Anyways, yay for another great page, and let’s wait for Daddy! XD
April 24th, 2007 at 3:22 am
Okay, I could be way off here, but I’m betting that ‘Daddy’ is also Stasia’s manager.
Does anyone else remember those character designs linked on the second page or something? I think the ‘Joey’ character is the manager and therefore also Stasia and Janny’s father. Unless I’m completely wrong.
Oh and of course, I love this comic, blah blah blah, been here from the start, blah blah blah.
April 24th, 2007 at 4:09 am
Kate is correct.
April 24th, 2007 at 5:23 am
It was sort of predictable what was on the sign (also provided that it was on the cover page), but it’s still juicingly gossip goodness! Been following since five pages ago! Excellent!
April 24th, 2007 at 5:33 am
quoted from wikipedia:
“Since 2001, five nations have made same-sex marriage legal, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Canada, and South Africa. Israel recognizes same-sex marriages from other jurisdictions. In the United States, Massachusetts is the only state to recognize same-sex marriage under the name marriage. Civil unions are a separate form of legal union open to couples of the same sex, and they are currently recognized in 24 out of 193 countries worldwide and in some U.S. states. Many U.S. states have adopted referendums or laws that generally restrict marriage recognition to heterosexual couples. Federally, the U.S. Senate has considered, and failed to pass, a Federal Marriage Amendment.”
that goes in response to valerie’s comment
I have to say i’m loving this comic so keep up the good work, the drawings have much personality and the story so far is quite fresh
April 24th, 2007 at 5:36 am
Just want to point out that there was never any kind of secrecy about what’s on the sign. It’s not just “sort of predictable” — it’s 100 percent flat out told to you in the title and the cover and EVERYTHING. I’m a little confused by those reactions. In my original post for this page I said “Now we see why Guy said he’d feel silly holding up that sign!” because of how girlish it looks with all the pink and the hearts, not because of what it said.
Glad you’re liking it, Andrew!
April 24th, 2007 at 6:04 am
I really Am liking how this comic is going…
I also think that our heroes may have to go forward with a sham marriage which may make Stasia even more popular
April 24th, 2007 at 6:11 am
Oh also.. people who are taking the gay marriage angle wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to seriously
Crazy fans often ask stars they love to marry them
Really Crazy fans think it happened to them
April 24th, 2007 at 6:34 am
Wonder who Parker cares the most for; Stasia or Guy?
April 24th, 2007 at 7:11 am
*laughs hysterically* Ooooh, Daddy’s coming. Stasia=screwed.
I love her facial expressions throughout. Great job Eisu!
I don’t quite get the dialogue in the second to last panel, but I’m sure all will become clear as the comic progresses, so I’m not too worried about it.
Keep it up!
April 24th, 2007 at 7:39 am
Thanks, edu^^
Larry: Yeah, I know, but I was just thinking that it might affect the story in some way. I dunno, man. There was no caffiene in my system… I was basically a zombie all day. XD But hey, I got paid five bucks for not drinking soda, so it’s all good.
April 24th, 2007 at 7:45 am
KittyKat: I’m pretty sure Stasia was just being sarcastic and kinda bitchy. It took me a minute to figure out the wording too, but if this becomes a movie that part will be spoken and make more sense, I’m sure. Y’know, ’cause we’ll hear the tone of her vice and everything.
April 24th, 2007 at 8:01 am
She’s absolutely being sarcastic, yes. According to Parker earlier, Stasia always signs loads of banners from the front row at some point during the concert (I think Parker said at the end, but I’m not 100% sure). Stasia is just really hurt that this guy she thought had at least SOME feeling for her doesn’t.
***
Valerie – I waffle. It’s a fault
April 24th, 2007 at 9:09 am
Stasia looks sexy on fifth panel. Guess Stasia’s Father is that Bulky man on the first page sketches (I think his name’s Joey).
April 24th, 2007 at 10:24 am
I need to say this, for some reason I see Jess in Stasia a lot ^_^
April 24th, 2007 at 10:30 am
I think Parker is more grounded than Stasia to be honest…her sign professed the love of a fan for a star and nothing more literal than that, plus she asks in this page whether Stasia will sign it in case they never meet again…talking to Stasia AND getting her autograph seems to be the most incredible thing that Parker could have even dared to imagine…and she doesn’t appear to harbour any further illusions. Sure, she’s a completely committed fanatic, but in general she’s living in the real world…
Stasia meanwhile, of course, took the sign SERIOUSLY… XD
Good stuff as ever, Bobby&Eisu. ^__________^
April 24th, 2007 at 3:20 pm
Hehe…Stasia’s expression in the last frame is great. And now we’re all expecting Daddy to be, like, this 6″7, 350 pound man who looks and sounds disturbingly like the Kingpin from those old Spiderman cartoons. He’s gonna end up being this small, slight guy with glasses, I bet. But with nerves of STEEL. Whee.
Now, c’mon. Guys with manly stubble are cute, so who cares that Guy was completely lethargic on the subject of Stasia? He’s cute…ehe.
Still haven’t watched Dr. Who. RVB is great though.
April 24th, 2007 at 3:41 pm
XD Oh man. I can’t wait for the next page! I love the expressions, Eisu.
I bet all her fans are freaking out right now, and the creepy-stalker-fan type is planning Guy’s death. Oh dear. >>;
And Stasia. She said she was burnt out and tired from the beginning, I bet she feels like she’s going to explode.
April 24th, 2007 at 6:18 pm
Dr. Jello: go to page two and look at the picture of Joey linked there. Earlier on in the comments for today’s page Bobby himself confirmed that that’s the dad/manager.
Pretty intimidating figure, I’d say.
April 24th, 2007 at 6:20 pm
Now the question is… Is Daddie a Stage Dad? Thinking about the cash bonanza this is
April 24th, 2007 at 8:11 pm
Thank goodness this was the last show for the year… maybe she can straighten things out before the next tour starts?
Love the comic, as always!
April 24th, 2007 at 8:38 pm
Nothing new to say, really… Just ♥ing Parker, as usual. XD
April 24th, 2007 at 9:26 pm
I’m with Val on that. ^^
April 25th, 2007 at 1:18 am
“I hate to brake up your first fight”
Wonderful!
I love this project and am looking forward to what you come up with next!
April 25th, 2007 at 4:04 am
we finally get to see the sign…but for all the anticipation, the sign can actually be seen on the comic’s cover page. heh
April 25th, 2007 at 4:07 am
Different sign, though! Well, different looking at least, although it’s supposed to be the same sign, as I’ve said earlier several times.
April 25th, 2007 at 8:10 am
the last panel is perfect, you can just see her thinking “Daddy? crap.” or some such thing. nice work, both writing and art.
April 25th, 2007 at 4:25 pm
I’d hate Parker to become just the comic relief character, I hope she plays an important role in the future…
April 25th, 2007 at 4:31 pm
Ooh…I SEE…so he’s like the pressuring dad type. I totally didn’t read all the comments from the previous strips. *laughs sheepishly*
*hides shame at being wrong* I have a hat. It says Taco on it. Ehe.
May 1st, 2007 at 1:52 am
Wow. Parker is cute when she’s happy. And scary when she’s angry.
May 22nd, 2007 at 8:51 am
It might be lame… but I love all the jaws and flying hair in this page =P
December 23rd, 2007 at 11:38 am
I don’t see how she can get so angry at him for that.
He was kinda put on the spot; she’s being rather unreasonable.
Also, I don’t get that line where she says “of course I only sign autographs for my husband”, that’s got nothing to with why he was having her sign it… just…
geeh she’s being such a freakin’ diva here!
March 18th, 2008 at 9:01 am
Now I get it! I guess the green in Stasia’s glasses made the sign red and white on the cover page!
April 29th, 2008 at 5:23 pm
Ah, their first fight; and they haven’t even been married an hour yet!
Also, loved Stasia’s “Oh, shit!” expression at the end. *spoiler*We will see that expression again, many times.*/spoiler*
